Hi, Tammy - You can read more about the research here: https://www.aspcapro.org/encouraging-research-regarding-homes-horses
Emily Weiss
47:19
Tammy - we did not break down by geographic area
Tammy Lozipone
47:38
If ownership is relinquished at 1 year, will the adopter be able to sell that horse after 1 year, and if so, what if the adopter doesn't inform the buyer of the ability for the horse to go back to the rescue it came from? I understand that communication and relationships are key, but do you have suggestions for how to approach this scenario?
Andrea Wogsland
48:48
What if the organization was not a participant in 2018?
Emily Weiss
49:32
For those that did not participate last year no worries! you will just submit your data
Emily Weiss
49:55
You will tell us how many adoptions you did last year during April 26-June 30
Sandy De Lisle
50:03
Andrea and Linda, all you have to do is self-report how many horses you adopted out from April 26, 2018-June 30, 2018. That will be your baseline for the contest.
Lauren Guerrera
51:01
Is this a percentage increase or actual number?
Emily Weiss
51:35
Lauren it is actual number - remember there will be 4 divisions
Candida Haasch
52:06
Perhaps the microchipping will help address Ta's concern regarding ownership relinquishment at 1 year. However, my understanding is that microchip technology is really lacking when it comes to horses-- the chips gravitate throughout the body, the scanners do not read each others' chips, etc.
Andrea Wogsland
53:01
We love Fleet of Angels!
Lauren Guerrera
53:23
This seems limiting to rescue that may not have the capacity to have a large number of horses. And for the grand prize, will it be a percentage increase as opposed to number of horses?
Emily Weiss
54:20
Candida - great point re microchips helping iin tracking. the vast majority of chips can be read by the vast majority of readers - and there is a new great tool to further help - the universal microchip look up tool https://equinemicrochiplookup.org/
Rebecca Goldrick
54:32
Hi, Lauren - It is the actual number and there will be 4 divisions
Emily Weiss
55:07
Lauren - that is why we have 4 divisions! Plenty of chances to win for all shapes and sizes!
L Hogan
55:12
Why should smaller organizations (lower divisions) receive less money for their efforts? They are usually the groups who need the most $$$
Lauren Guerrera
55:48
So what is the difference between the grand prize and the division prize? If it is abased on numbers than it seems smaller rescues don't have a chance to win the grand prize
Lauren Martin
55:57
Hi Cynthia. Without getting too complicated, an independent board member is one without a financial interest in the organization. For example, a paid employee is not independent.
Elaine Nash
56:10
Thank you, Matt and Emily, for this good information. Fleet of Angels is happy to help get horses into great, safe new homes, we can, including helping them get from one transition facility (rescue) to another.
Lauren Martin
57:31
Hi Lauren. There is one grand prize for the group who has the largest increase across all divisions. The grand prize winner would not also be eligible for a division prize.
Lea Brayton
58:37
Can you say more about the requirement for majority independent board? Our founders both serve on our small board, as does our programs director. Would this disqualify us from the contest?
Susan Furukawa
59:49
the skypes are noisy again!
Olivia Melikhov
01:01:12
Lisa - can you clarify what you mean by adoption stories? Are you thinking of using them to enter the social media award?
Emily Weiss
01:01:18
Lea - first remember you have until the end of the contest to make any changes to get your legal house in order - and that doing so will set you up to be able to receive grants from other granting organizations
Susan Furukawa
01:02:17
I'M HEARING ALL THE SKYPE CHAT.
Lea Brayton
01:02:25
Thanks, Emily.
Lauren Martin
01:02:54
Rosi, you're correct.
Olivia Melikhov
01:03:11
ah yes! we'll be sharing compelling stories from different participating groups on our social media channels. if you have a compelling story to share from 2018 and you think it will help drive adoptions for 2019, feel free to post it! good questions :)
Lauren Guerrera
01:03:11
This seems very limiting for smaller rescues who may not have 30+horses to rehome in that timeframe. It is disappointing to feel like you can't even compete
Jennifer Hegg
01:04:06
I am very excited and grateful for this opportunity!
Lauren Martin
01:04:38
Lea, you would need to have an independent board to apply for a grant prize at the end of the contest. if you have specific questions, please join our office hours!
Elaine Nash
01:05:23
Maybe would be helpful to clarify what the start and stop dates are for the contest?
Matt Stern
01:05:32
Lauren G., the divisions will be based on last year's adoption numbers, so the smaller rescues will be competing with each other. While there will undoubtedly be some variation within the division, you're likely to be grouped with others like you. Also, it's about the increase in numbers, not the total.
Lauren Martin
01:05:52
hi sydney. you can email me at lauren.martin@aspca.org. happy to talk it through!

01:05:57
Lauren - sorry you feel that way - 30 horses in that time frame is not a small number... and with all the support and visibility even if you do not win there are opportunities to save more horses!
Matt Stern
01:06:20
Hi Elaine. Contest starts on April 26 and ends on June 30.
Jordan Evans
01:06:23
Are all equines included - donkeys, mules , etc?
Matt Stern
01:06:36
Yes Jordan, all equines!
Gloria Timmons
01:06:50
if we had an adoption during the contest time frame but the horse was later returned to us (later in the year), do we still count it as an adoption?
Jordan Evans
01:06:57
thank you Matt!
Matt Stern
01:07:06
We sometimes say "horses" but we always mean any kind of equine

01:08:03
yes, even if a horse is later returned, you can count the adoption
Lauren Martin
01:08:21
so long as the adoption is completed and the ownership of the horse is transferred
Andrea Wogsland
01:08:40
Will you have a table outlining of total #of dollars that have the opportunity to be won in each division?
Lauren Guerrera
01:09:08
how are the social media prizes going to be judged?

Carrie, the dates are from April 26 to June 30
Lea Brayton
01:10:37
Do you have suggestions for sanctuaries that are looking for funding? With the new focus, will the ASPCA have any grant funds that specifically support the good and valuable work of sanctuary modeks?
Andrea Wogsland
01:11:07
Is any consideration given to the level of readiness of the horses for adoption?
Tammy Lozipone
01:11:27
Are we ineligible again this year if we don't relinquish ownership within 1 year?
Susan Furukawa
01:11:40
PLEASE ONLY USE THIS CHAT FOR YOUR QUESTIONS. (We cannot monitor the Q&A section). Thank you
Sandy De Lisle
01:13:03
Lea, we just put together these equine grants resources for 2019: https://www.aspcapro.org/10-grant-opportunities-equine-organizations-2019
Tammy Lozipone
01:14:06
I did notice that Heart of Phoenix has an excellent contract to refer to for transfer of ownership at one year if anyone needs a guide
Robert White
01:14:42
How can we assure that transferred equines cannot end up in the hands of the "kille buyers", at least until the SAFE act is finally passes ?
Cassie Lackey
01:14:44
Not entirely clear when we start adopting and stop. You’ve given many dates- can someone define please? Promotion begins___ and ends___?
Andrea Wogsland
01:14:58
What mechanisms will be in place to capture people who are interested in adoption that visit the website where you will have all the participants listed, but may not take the step to reach out to us directly?
Olivia Melikhov
01:15:32
Hi Cassie! We are counting adoptions from April 26 - June 30 - so we'd recommend focusing your promotion for that timeframe
Candida Haasch
01:15:40
My understanding (correct me if I'm wrong) the contest period, when actual adoptions done are counted, goes from April 26 through June 30 in answer to Cassie Lackey
Emily Weiss
01:15:42
contest starts April 26th- ends June 30
Valerie Jackson
01:16:09
Thank you all for all you do to help us help the horses
Nicole Dorenzo
01:16:39
you may want to point out gelded vs ungelded horses also. I believe all horses need to be gelded correc?
Nicole Dorenzo
01:16:50
correct *
christineabruzzi
01:17:01
just re-asking a question from above: does the contest include all equines? minis, donkeys, mules?
Andrea Wogsland
01:17:16
Will you have a popup to do email capture with city and state that you then share with rescues in that area?
Olivia Melikhov
01:17:25
Christine - the challenge includes ALL equines!
Emily Weiss
01:17:31
Yes Christine - All equines!
christineabruzzi
01:17:37
awesome - thanks!

Love how you all adapted the contest this year. Regardless of whether or not we win, opportunity for education, networking and grant awards abound 😊🐴
christineabruzzi
01:18:56
I’m assuming that will apply to care leases, also - does there need to be an adoption application/assessment on file for it to count?
Andrea Wogsland
01:19:27
What future research at the ASPCA is in the works to be done to further explore this issue?
christineabruzzi
01:19:38
agreed - learning about this program is so uplifting!! thank you for doing this!
Matt Stern
01:19:54
Lyn, it is a requirement that all equines are gelded when adopted out unless there is a medical exception by a licensed vet.
