A number of drugs have had their "use by" dates extended by the FDA - cross reference your inventory with the list here: https://www.fda.gov/drugs/drug-shortages/search-list-extended-use-dates-assist-drug-shortages

Can something be done about spaying/neutering stray/feral cats who are released back to caregiver with horrific and painful
Brian DiGangi
01:25:36
Hi Ellen - Animals should not be released from the surgery clinic if they in obvious pain. I would suggest reviewing the anesthesia and pain management protocols (with your veterinarian if that's not you!) and incorporate some of the techniques Dr. Rhoades discussed earlier.
Ellen Landers
01:26:04
dental disease? I bring all my cats who are s/n to my personal vet and most have severe dental disease or ear infections. I understand the clinic is for s/n but can you let caregivers know about dental disease so we can decide what we want to do further?
Brian DiGangi
01:26:41
Hi Kim, By closed loop communications, we are referring to a "call and answer" type system so everyone knows that whatever communication was made was actually heard and is being addressed.
Brian DiGangi
01:27:55
Hi Ellen, Your clinic should provide you with a summary of abnormal physical examination findings that need further care. If that is not happening, I would specifically ask them if they can provide that information for you.
Karin Baker
01:29:24
How do you feel about getting electronic consent for surgery without a physical signature from the owners?
Brenna Jennings
01:29:29
Just a reminder, you’ll receive an email with the recording and the slides, plus the onboarding manual within a few business days
Brian DiGangi
01:29:38
Hi Terilynn, The CDC has provided some great recommendations on the type of PPE needed based on exposure risk: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/community/veterinarians.html

We are still trying to meet up with a client to get their consent - with volunteers wearing PPE and limiting number of clients
Peggy Imbrie
01:30:32
I run a feral cat spay/neuter clinic in Idaho. I keep my males for 1 day post surgery and females for 3 days. It creates a great deal of work but allows to me to monitor pain and healing
Brian DiGangi

Electronic consent question from Karin
Renee Gutierrez
01:31:17
Im interested in this question as well: How do you feel about getting electronic consent for surgery without a physical signature from the owners?
Debbie Hawkins
01:31:41
Our program is trying to figure out how to not meet face to face with clients, have them complete their application online. Our challenge - we have to have proof of their income. Anyone else have this challenge?
Brian DiGangi
01:31:44
Hi Jennifer - we are planning on opening the training program at the end of August (which will involve some selected spay/neuter patients).
Ellen Landers
01:31:54
Can you do something about cats with severe dental disease? they are being released in pain
Meredith Montgomery
01:32:22
How is ANSA running discharge instructions to owners during this time?
Darcie Harrell
01:32:38
Jennifer- we plan on starting our training again at that time, we haven't set a date for s/n yet
Don Sheets Jr.
01:32:39
How are you handling additional charges found after the presurgical exam ie retained baby teeth, ectoparasites, umbilical hernias etc
Brian DiGangi
01:32:42
Current drug protocols?
Danielle Robinson
01:33:08
Hello! Could you please provide the link for the Best Friends toolkit? I think I missed it! Thank you!
Brenna Jennings
01:33:36
Hi Danielle, it’s in the slides which you’ll get access to in the follow up email!
Amy Shaver
01:33:57
Are there any recommendations to preserve PPE (surgical gloves primarily) while continuing high volume S/N? We were scrounging prior to closing down and ended up paying double for what we found. We have decent stock now, BUT our prices don't have that kind of wiggle room. We had read somewhere that some clinics were using exam gloves on top of surgical gloves during surgeries... wondering ASNA's take on this or any other potential shortcuts that are still SAFE though.
Brian DiGangi
01:33:59

01:35:04
Hi Amy, Univ of Florida has some recommendations regarding PPE conservation here: https://sheltermedicine.vetmed.ufl.edu/covid-19-resources/
Nadine Langston
01:35:32
Same question as Debbie. How to have owners provide proof of financial need without direct contact.
Cheri Wegner
01:35:59
Our state requires face-to-face informed consent between the client and the veterinarian. How can we handle that with curbside intake?
Brian DiGangi
01:36:38
Hi Kim - PPE recommendations from UF are here: https://sheltermedicine.vetmed.ufl.edu/covid-19-resources/

We created an affidavit for proof of income and it basically says that if they were required to provide it they could. They don't bring us anything to view. Don't know if that would work for you
Sheila Doyle
01:38:05
How are clinics deciding when to re-open?
Alison Mocko
01:38:44
@Sheila - for us it’s when the Governor and the Vet Board say we can open.
Darcie Harrell
01:39:53
Jacqueline- that is fine, a lot of clinics are doing that.
Lorin Loffredo
