Feel free to type questions for Shara here in chat and we will share with her at the end!

01:01:39
Amazing testimonial!

01:03:09
Heidi is on - can you unmute her?

01:03:13
WHat questions do you all have for Shara? Who else uses a conversation-based adoption process?

01:04:12
We use one here at Lollypop Farm in addition to our paper. It has been a wonderful change in finding homes for our horses

01:07:04
Janet and everyone, please make sure to select all attendees when you type in chat so that everyone can see your comment or question. Speaking of questions, make sure to ask them! We will have a Q&A at the end!

01:07:31
Thanks!

01:07:50
Great you guys! Sometimes starting with conversation will make sure that there are not road blocks for good adopters (for example that adopter Shara noted that did not have proper housing - by starting with a conversation, that adopter did not stop at the paperwork -

01:07:55
We to use one at Next Step Horse Rescue. We believe that having an open conversation with a potential adopter is just as important as seeing it on paper.

01:11:13
Where can we find the Capacity care guidelines? I missed that

01:13:04
Lauren, we will ask Ellen to reply to this and see if we can get you a link. And Debra, we'll get to your question, too!

01:14:30
Magic Happens in the Details. I love that!

01:15:30

01:17:44
Our rescue has a majority of companion/retired horses, I am looking for any suggestions on how to increase changes for successful adoptions of these type of horses.

01:17:44
Emily, we will ask HSNT!

01:19:31
Marie, we will pose the question and here are a few webinars dedicated exactly to that: https://www.aspcapro.org/webinar/2019-02-06-120000/how-home-special-needs-and-unrideable-horses

01:19:39

01:20:06
And Marie - all that was shared so far is for those companion horses as well!

01:20:33
Awesome, thank you so much for sharing these links with me!

01:24:17
Shara, Heidi and Ellen - you guys are rock stars

01:24:53
oh man - can we save the poll for the end next time?

01:25:20
Thank you so much for all these new ideas! Is there anything else in your goodness packets that you didn’t mention?

01:25:32
Any specific recommendations for marketing horses for adoption that may be special needs, seniors, or needing to be companion horses?

01:25:42
It just runs in the background while they ask questions

01:26:04
When we ask at the end no one answers

01:27:04
Emily, we can look at sequence for the polls. We placed it so that we captured them before the audience leaves, but worth a look

01:27:35
Do you guys have any links or connections with groups or organizations that provide grants to 501(c)(3) rescues? Being in an extremely small town all our donations are from individuals and we have no large donors or grants.

01:30:34
Danielle - we can share a list of places where you can look - also - we suggest you consider joining the Warm-Up Ring - which opens collaboration opportunities as well as access to grants and other resources - https://therighthorse.org/becomeapartner/

01:31:50
What do you do when you reach maximum capacity?

01:32:37
We have been using a conversation based adoption process for a long time, it was great to learn the correct "term" to describe this approach!

01:33:24
Interest in adoption form (be sure to check out our new website soon!): https://hsnt.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Equine-and-Livestock-Adopter-Interest-Application-2.pdf

01:33:32
Here are the ASV Guidelines: https://www.sheltervet.org/assets/docs/shelter-standards-oct2011-wforward.pdf

01:33:37
Those ASV guidelines were originally developed for dogs and cats - but Ellen cleverly uses those guidelines for equines -

01:33:50
Can anyone recommend any specific language they have found helpful in talking with adopters who have "chosen" a horse that you don't feel is an appropriate match for them?

01:35:28
What do you consider an acceptable acreage per horse that ensures horses wellbeing?

01:36:35
You can also check with your local ag extension office for specifics to your area!

01:38:42
Thank you!

01:39:31
