59:17
FeLV Vaccine question… does the first and second for a never-vaxed-before cat have to be same brand…? Just wondering b/c thru our spay/neuter program some owners do get it… and we advise to get a booster and of course the next vet may use a different product.

01:00:03
Folks in other countries: are you finding less cases of FIV since the vaccine is available?

01:00:40
I've captured your questions, Rachel, Lauren, Lisa and Brittayt! We will try to get to as many as we can at the end.

01:13:35
I'm doing TNR so not testing feral, but testing friendly that are going to be adopted (sorry, I missed the slide, not sure which # it fall under)

01:16:34
would you recommend retesting the FIV neg cats that are on a community room with FIV pos.

01:18:56
negative results are still results and i think having a lot of negative tests do not diminish the value of the test. It simply reflects the "real" prevalence of the disease. If we only test suspected/high risk cats, we are artificially increasing prevalence. Can you please commnet on my thoughts? thank you

01:19:35
meaning, not only positive tests are valuable

01:19:56
Are FIV and FeLV transferred through mating?

01:22:03
Jose- you are not wrong. However, what she is suggesting is selecting the population to test in order to maximize the test population prevalence, thereby increasing the specificity and sensitivity of the test itself. Test sensitivity and specificity is directly related to the population prevalence. So, yes, you are artificially increasing the prevalence, but you have to keep in mind that the population you are testing does not represent your shelter population as a whole

01:22:26
why test low risk owned cats? What will be recommended according to the results?

01:22:30
…so then what does the family DVM do with a positive FeLV result…?

01:23:15
Do you believe ASV will alter their position statement on testing ALL cats?

01:23:33
How do you deal with individually housed, low risk cats in a shelter that then may be adopted into a household with other cats?

01:24:22
Our highest number of FeLV positive kittens have been born outdoors to feral cats.

01:24:24
Regarding optional testing, what about adopters who want to know the result before adopting, and may be upset if they later find out a cat is positive?

01:24:26
What about cats that are not returned to the same area and relocated?

01:27:32
We do confirmatory testing for FeLV cats and kittens

01:29:14
How do we re-program community veterinarians to this paradigm shift for placement & testing?

01:30:49
I second Lisa's question - the vets we work with have a history of giving "worst case scenario" information to adopters who have adopted a cat who tests positive

01:31:57
I would love more information from other organizations that adopt out FelV + cats and kittens

01:32:01
We had a recent adoption surrendered due to a positive FeLV test. We did a PCR test and the cat was negative

01:32:18
Confirmatory tests can be wrong

01:33:26
I have double posiive cat now on a snap test but is ifa negative

01:33:28
We have actually seen an increase in both FIV and FeLV cats brought in from outside. Friendly strays, abandoned cats, pregnant moms and kittens. Why is this happening?

01:33:50
@brittany — email me at rjohnson@hstc1.org and I can chat with you about our program! It’s small and new but we might be able to help :)

01:35:46
@brittany - email me at pbrayer@hssaz.org. We have 3 programs available for FeLV and FIV positive and exposed kittens and cats

01:37:32
is it possible to save this chat…? for email addresses provided above?

01:37:37
What are the chances of transmitting Felk between cats in kennels when the staff aren't washing hands between cleaning cats and their litterboxes, bowls (the same box and bowls go back into the same kennel)...?

01:38:08
Thanks - that was great!!

01:38:11
The AAFP guidelines do recommend that infected cats not be place back outside or allowed to roam outside. How does this fit in with the recommendations not to test TNR cats?

01:38:21
So what are the highest risk categories….
