Is this a limited admission shelter or open admission shelter?
Marianne Luft
53:48
HSWM is a limited admission shelter.
Mattie McClean
54:14
Is there somewhere we can get more info about the 4x a day enrichment plan?
Tania Corbett
55:54
What is the information for the behavior helpling; number?
Marianne Luft
56:03
Just a reminder to please post messages to "all panelists and attendees." You can change that setting above the chat box.
Juliette Nash
56:38
the # of public classes you offer, are they series of classes or single 1hr sessions?
Amanda Kopec
59:23
What types of enrichment do you offer 4 times a day? Walks, kongs, sent enrichment (are you considering walks etc as an enrichment session)
Emma Singh
59:38
Hello! How many hands on animal care (animal care technicians and veterinary) staff do you have? Who staffs the Hotline?
Wendy Hall
01:01:01
Of course, not all give-ups are due to behavior problems. Do you have resources to refer to re: deceased owner, etc.? Off topic for behavior, but just curious.
Stacey Shore
01:02:40
What is CCPDT again?
Susan Conway
01:03:06
The certifying council for professional dog trainers
Stacey Shore
01:03:14
thanks
Susan Conway
01:03:43
you’re welcome! They issue the CPDT-KA credential
Marianne Luft
01:03:52
Yep - Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT) is the certification.
Danny Reynolds
01:10:56
Can we see what your Google Sheets look like?
Liz Senteney
01:11:02
Will you have an example or How-To to organize this information in PetPoint?
Marianne Luft
01:11:28
I'm compiling your questions so that Tiff can address them at the end of her presentation! Please remember to message "all panelists and attendees."
Kristin Branagan
01:13:14
Is there a liability concern for an organization in having a hotline (i.e. aggression issues)?
Sarah Porter
01:13:27
Can we get a copy of this log as an example
Tegan Macdonald
01:14:55
If you have cells selected, it only searches the selected cells
Steph Renaud
01:16:07
When you select the row after the first result, it only searches within that row
Tom Kiesche
01:17:22
Piggybacking on another's question... VOLUNTEERS are not city employees, obviously. What is the liability of operating a help line with volunteers who have various levels of experience?
Sarah Porter
01:17:29
private lessons provided by the shelter?
Dominique LAlonde
01:19:20
Do you find it risky to provide free advice on a phone and not being able to ensure the listener will do what you ask or do what you said properly and not cause more problems for the animal... (how to mitigate misunderstadnings and manage expectations)
Robin Landy
01:20:00
We already have a "pet helpline" at our shelter for behavior questions, vet and food assistance. We barely ever get calls to that line with behavior questions. Would you recommend designating another number specifically for behavior help or just do a better job of marketing the line in general?
Danny Reynolds
01:21:07
We also rarely get behavior help calls. When we do the person is usually "at the end of their rope" with the dog and want to surrender. What can we do?
Robin Landy
01:22:22
Exactly...most people wait too long to call if they do at all??
Tom Kiesche
01:23:34
Boy I agree with that... many people don't ask for help till AFTER they've made up their mind to give up.
Wendy Hall
01:24:24
For the dangerous animals or those not likely to respond well to therapy, does the shelter provide euthanasia or is that referred to local DVM?
Emma Singh
01:26:16
how many adoptions to you do each year?
Megann Smith
01:26:51
If no one at the shelter is certified, is it okay to ask local trainers or behaviorist if they would okay "partnering" or offering like a consult discount to get the process started. Obviously making owners aware that fees are likely
Sean Hendrickson
01:28:09
Do you have an open intake shelter that you defer to? Do they have a behavior team and do you collaborate with them?
Sean Hendrickson
01:28:19
open intake shelter in your area*
Jessica Hewes
01:29:37
we are also working with the problem of the owner already having made up their mind to surrender-for whatever reason.
Carolyn Muller
01:31:34
We use Kiko pup as a resource too. Great YouTube videos!!!
Dominique LAlonde
01:32:00

01:32:26

01:32:28
LOVE Malena! she is the best!!
Wendy Hall
01:32:47
Does Malena’s ofer apply to rescue groups (no shelter)?
Emma Singh
01:34:25
love the puppy!!
Christina Bunner
01:35:30
Have you ever used Zoom/video calls? We have been using it for virtual adoptions and wanted to offer virtual behavior consults
Dominique LAlonde
01:35:41
Do you ever do a zoom.. do you just focus on the owner describing the behavior or do you want to see it before you give advice... or is that beyond a helpline scope
Candace Falkenstien
01:36:03
Completed survey...thank you,
Alison Reder
01:36:37
We (Wayside) have been using Zoom for virtual adoption as well as virtual meet-n-greets. We are planning to use it for virtual behavior consults as well.
Megann Smith
01:36:45
When taking behavior calls we keep the door open to surrender so they don't feel defeated and out of options. Should we not do that?
Tom Kiesche
01:37:15
Is there a disclaimer BEFORE advice or on the site?
Marie Hauguel
01:37:36
when a dog owner needs a consultation do you go the person's house or does the person come to your shelter ?
Robin Landy
01:39:00
Our dog trainer is very hesitant to diagnose behavior issues without seeing it in person. It seems the average person's vocabulary and understanding about dog behavior is very limited, and makes it very hard to be able to figure out what's actually going on. Any tips?
Wendy Hall
01:39:09
In response to people waiting too long - sometimes folks are just wanting to hear you support their plan to regime or PTS the animal.
Stephen Quandt
01:39:29
Our admissions dept does a lot of what you've described but usually in the context of surrender prevention. Can we market them as a behavior resource prior to needing surrender prevention?
Wendy Hall
01:39:30

Emma Singh
01:39:35
does the public pay for the training classes and if so is it discounted in comparission to simaler offerings in your area?
maria ochs
01:39:57
would you please send it to us that sop would be amazing thank you
Heather Gibbs
01:40:02
(We operate a BHL as well) I love that you spoke about giving primarily management advice on the Helpline and promoting more detailed training plans in-person during classes/consulting. Thank you for your presentation!
Emma Singh
01:40:03
share documents with all!! =-)
Sarah Porter
01:40:12
Does the shelter provide the private lessons or do you refer to local trainers?
Dominique LAlonde
01:40:38
those are lessons tho. but not in the help line scpe correct?
Claudia Gomez
01:40:54
Got to run, virtual team meeting in 5 minutes. Thank you so much for all the information!
Tom Kiesche
01:41:16

Thank you for all the information! Great webinar :)
Candace Falkenstien
01:42:31
how would you manage what the volunteers are saying
Juliette Nash
01:42:43
At San Diego Humane Society, our volunteers don't directly answer phone calls, but they are able to respond to very simple emails using some "automated responses" curated by our training staff. They just modify the text as needed for the specific email (things like housetraining, puppy mouthing etc.)
Michele Rosenmutter
01:42:53
Thank you. This was very interesting.
Megann Smith
01:42:53
Thank you so much for this amazing presentation! I'm excited to get this going! Surrender intervention is so important and a behavior helpline is such a logical resource!
Stephen Quandt
