my feral cat I have fed for over 8 years had her spayed, then took inside about a year later, well she does come out when I go to the kitchen she knows it’s food, but she Won’t allow me to touch her, she hisses at her cat toys, I left her cat box open, she has free range of my home. I talk to her when I’m home, what else can I do?
Loralee Greco
52:39
Q for Sam: can you elaborate on why more space quicker is better for shy cats? I’ve always thought that slow intros to larger areas is the way to go. Is this piece of advice aimed at cats who spend a lot of time in very small spaces (less than 4 sq ft)?

I've seen the same positive results when dealing with Declawed cats that behave aggressively/fractious in shoreline kennels. Placing them in community rooms or bigger fenced kennels has allowed them to be handle able and safer for staff handling

We have seen many of our "shy" cats transform in a foster home environment. This pandemic has allowed cats to be moved into a foster home in a very short period of time. It has documented that some cats that would fail a behavior eval in shelter, are actually very social in a home environment.

I feel that fosters are the best resource. Having trained fosters (in dealing with bottle babies, physiotherapy, shy cats and so forth) is invaluable. In-house training is great as is using outside online training programmes.

We're just going to make an announcement I think and you can let me know if there is anyone we need to politely kick
ASPCA Marianne Luft
01:33:27
Hi all! Just a reminder that the afterparty is a chance for ASPCA and LL partners to talk more about shy and fearful cats. We'll get it started at about 3:57.
ASPCA Renee Dunaway
01:33:49
Maybe we can instruct them how to change their names to include their organizations?
ASPCA Marianne Luft
01:34:19

thank you ladies great info. I would love some tips on how to get volunteers and staff on board with understanding how much fear we create and how much we can reduce this. sorry if this was covered earlier I missed the beginning with the time difference in Australia

British Columbia SPCA Hide, Perch & Go box that Dr. Katherine Miller mentioned >> https://spca.bc.ca/programs-services/leaders-in-our-field/professional-resources/for-veterinarians/bc-spca-hide-perch-go-box/
ASPCA Marianne Luft

She was referring to reducing population of animals in care.
Sharon Hopkins
01:55:36
we are seeing a much larger number of cats with behaviour challenges. some of this I believe is because we work hard with our local council to allow us to take these cats. Previously we would not have the opportunity, sadly there are no options for those considered feral
ASPCA Renee Dunaway
01:57:37
Sharon - Interesting. Is your local council seeing more fearful cats come in? Or are you now able to transfer more into your organization?
Patricia Rytlewski
